If you get a lemon you are doomed

We liked this unit so much in our prior house we bought the same model when we renovated the kitchen in our new house. It is beautiful and the new Printshield Finish does a great job hiding dirt/fingerprints. Now the bad. We apparently were unlucky and got a dud. The fridge hasn't been cooling properly for over 50 days. During that time we've had 6 service repair visits, none successful. KitchenAid customer support is, to be polite, "limited." Their response to every failed repair attempt is to re-schedule a new service call, with the same repair firm, replacing the same parts. Getting the problem escalated to supervisors able and willing to help apparently requires a secret code I have not yet discovered. So before buying a KitchenAid/Whirpool appliance consider that warranty/customer support is weak. Best to buy from dealer you are confident will fight for you if the unit becomes unrepairable, or choose a brand with strong customer service.

We bought this for a kitchen remodel. We were stuck with a 42" wide due to space issues. I would recommend the 48" if you have room. Overall it is working well except for the crazy butter compartment. Every time we open it the stuff falls out! This is annoying. Ice make works well, but we did not get the water dispenser. My family is regretting this decision. HOWEVER...there are no fingerprints on the doors! Just clean with stainless cleaner and it stays clean looking. YAY!

Ice Dispenser Design is Flawed

After being installed for 2 years and 3 months, the ice dispenser stopped working. The icemaker and water dispenser both work fine, but the mechanism that passes ice through the door is broken. Of course, Kitchenaid is not interested in covering it since the warranty has expired. Very disappointing.

The sales person should have said it could take 3 days or so for the temperature in the refrigerator to equalize. During the first 3 days we experienced wild swings in the temp, from 37 degrees to 63 degrees multiple times a day. Couldn't reset the flashing error messages and the buttons didn't work. Also, need bigger shelves on the door in the fridge!

We've had this fridge over a year now and love it. We had the previous model which died after 13 years and I was reluctant to buy essentially the same fridge again. However, since it was a built in we had no choice but to buy the newer model because otherwise we would have had to alter cabinets etc. This model is great - super quiet (you don't know it's on), LED lighting which is bright, spacious and wide shelves for ease of storage of large platters/casserole dishes. Easy to clean, the stainless steel does not mark, handle etching ensures you don't see marks on the handle. The only issues were the cost, but all built in fridges are expensive and the freezer drawer fronts which tend to come off the wire baskets (easy to put back on but for the price I would have hoped for a better design.)

So far, after only 1 month, we are very pleased with our Kitchenaid side by side. We love the shelving arrangement and the lighting. The refrigerator portion holds a lot of food, but the freezer shelves are a bit shallow. The negatives we have discovered is that the top compartment on the refigerstor door (the butter dish holder) is cheaply made and there is a push on lining around the shelf that too easily comes off. It should be permanently fastened. Also, we are unable to remove the ice bin to empty it as the freezer door is blocked by an adjacent wall. Not really a fault of Kitchenaid. Overall, we are very satisfied.

I love the handles and finish. The interior is well lit and easy to clean. The glass shelves are fully adjustable to suit your height preferences. There are two large drawers for produce and fruit and third drawer with it's own thermostat for meat, cheese, produce, or fruit. It could be used as a special prep drawer. The freezer features a large ice drawer that can produce plenty of ice pretty quickly. Both refrigerator and freezer doors have generous bins for convenient, visible storage. There is a covered bin for butter and a wine sling. The clean electronic temperature display is easy to use.

I am so happy with this refrigerator. To be honest, I wasn't too familiar with Kitchen Aid appliances. I did my homework and I would highly recommend this refrigerator. I did not get the water/ice dispenser and I am so glad I didn't. I got so tired of water streaks. This refrigerator makes so much ice! I LOVE this refrigerator as far as functionality and looks! Defective ice maker

As soon as this product was installed in our kitchen we discovered that the ice maker was not working. We scheduled an appointment to have a new ice maker installed but the part was not delivered in time so our appointment was rescheduled waiting for new part to be delivered. Since the installation of new ice maker, we still do not have a functional ice maker. Now we are waiting for new parts and our next appointment for service is in another week. I have asked Pacific Sales to replace the entire appliance but they claim that the frig is functional and that the ice maker is an accessory and separate from the refrigerator. Now we wil wait another week for the third attempt to get the ice maker working. Because of the inconvenience and delay of the repairs, I feel a new frig replacement is not unreasonable. Pacific Sales insists that we allow the next repair to occur in hopes that the ice maker will be functional. Considering the cost of this built in item, I am very discouraged with this KitchenAide and Pacific Sales product.

I just replace my 20-year-old Kitchenaid appliances with stainless. My last built-in lasted 20 years without problems before needing to be replaced. This refrigerator fit perfectly and works great. Everything is the perfect temperature and digital temperature readout and other features are easy to use. Because of its size, I feared replacin this the most but the super employees from Bray & Scarff in Arlington made it look easy. I'm very happy!

5+ years old and refrigerator does not cool 10K refrigerator. Noise is also high. Called kitchen aid and heard 12 year warranty! useless. Paid 150 for Kitchen aid technician estimated 2500$ for repairs and all parts under warranty. In addition they will not guarantee fridge will be working!!! stay away with these products and warranty gimmicks.. Buy trusted brands with proper warranties.

Failing after two years and disaster service

I moved and because my last Kitchenaid builtin was great for ten years (just replaced the icemaker) bought this. Terrific for two years, then started having fridge temperature high and freezer -10 (several similar reviews here--but not before I bought). Every time I call service it takes me at least half an hour, frequently much more with long waits and dropped calls. I have now had this serviced five or six times over five months by two Kitchenaid service companies, with no urgency, never coming as scheduled either, and although I thought this was fixed--has worked for a month or so since the last fix--it has the same problem again today.

I had to buy a built-in to replace one that died in a kitchen I was not prepared to renovate. So many people suggested buying a 36" standard fridge and filling in the extra space with cabinet trim. I am so glad I bought this built-in! It was among the most reasonably priced in its class, and ended up making the kitchen look fabulous. Now when I see standard refrigerators, for me they detract rather than enhance to kitchen aesthetic. This is a beautiful appliance, and so worth the upgrade.

My favorite new feature is that fingerprints are much less likely to show on the new finish v. our old stainless steel model - no more having to wipe it down after each use! There seems to be a bit more space in this model as well. Hoping this lasts another 14 years!

I bought this to replace an older kitchenaid model because I knew it would fit in my cabinet space, and was one of the lower priced 42" built-ins. I do love the new led lights, and the handles are much nicer than before. It cools very well, ice maker is quiet and the ice is very clear, maybe due to the filter being a different style and larger than the previous model. I was only disappointed that the produce drawer filter was not integrated into the drawers, it's just a cheap plastic container with suction cups that holds the packets of filtering material. There were no instructions about this in the user guide, I only discovered it when I opened the gift box with the spare water filter. I was also missing one of the freezer door shelves, but KitchenAid has promised to send it to me. Now I just hope this fridge lasts longer than the last one (13 years).

Love the refrigerator but disappointed with freezer drawer design. Drawer is a wire basket with a plastic front. The plastic drawer front on both drawers will not stay attached to the wire basket rendering the drawers useless. This seems to be a design flaw with the drawer.

Brand new worked only 3 days then didn't cool on refrigerator side. freezer side frosted up. called kitchen aid, on hold for 57 minutes then have up and made appointment on line for service. rep came out a week later and found a pkuf not properly installed at factory. worked fine for 3 days but now freezer frosting up again

We installed this fridge a couple of weeks ago and so far I don't have any complaints. It is quiet, the icemaker is quick, and it's just the right size. We really have loved the lighting inside the unit as well as the way the doors feel when you open and close them-- very sturdy and quiet. We did recieve the wrong base grill somehow-- but after contacting customer service I was informed that there is a seperate phone number for the built in units and I was VERY impressed with the customer service I recieved. I got a person without having to listen to elevator music and she understood my issue and sent a replacement out without question and incurring extra charges. I was very pleased with the experience!

Replaced our side-by-side KA refrigerator ( 2004) model with 2016 model. Incredible lighting improvements. Ice maker lowered to much easier level for gathering ice. So quiet that we initially checked repeatedly to see if it was functioning properly. Shelves vastly improved: better sliding function, deeper, well positioned. Very satisfied.

We love our new side by side built in refrigerator! We just did a total kitchen remodel and purchased all new KitchenAid appliances. We are happy with all of our appliances. They look great and perform well. My husband's only request was for a side by side refrigerator. I originally wanted french door refrigerator but have been very happy with the side by side. Great storage. Beautiful inside, easy to keep clean and organized. Food seems to stay fresh longer.

FREEZER TEMP CONCERN

Had a built-in KitchenAid when bought new house. Lasted 16 years. Bought same type, capacity, etc. The unit is beautiful and refrigerator side is great. Problem on Freezer side is that it, every so often, on it's own, although set to 0 degrees, the thermostat drops as low as -10 degrees. With a mercury thermometer we put in the freezer it reads as low as -18 degrees. I then have to reset the temp control in the refrig back to factory settings 0/37. About an hour later the freezer rebounds to -0 to -2 degrees. And no, this is not a result of the freezer door being left open for a period of time. Because it is not an every occurrence we haven't called for service. This unit is only 40days new.

One Great Refrigerator

We needed to replace a counter depth refrigerator having pretty exacting measurements to fit the cabinet. The Kitchenaid was a perfect fit. Not only that, it is a perfect refrigerator; well built, great lighting, wonderful depth and sturdy shelving. The ice maker works amazingly fast. I love the silent doors---no suction sound. I would recommend this appliance over and over.

Granted it is only a week old, but we really like it. The LED lighting is awesome, it does what it is supposed to and looks great. A couple notes - the S.S. finish seems updated from the past and is a lighter shade/more smudge proof (that is good!), and I think this one is 1/2" deeper than our other older model. We really like it so far!

worst service experiance

I purchased this built in KBSN602ESS00 unit in may 2016. Since day 1 we have had over temp alarm and no control of temp. I WAS TOLD THERE IS A SERVICE BULLITIN about bad board from factory. after 2 services problem still persist. board and wiring harness replaced. ref temp was 56 degrees. Trying to talk to service or schedule is horrible. I called 5 times this am and no response yet. NEVER will I BUY kitchenaid again unless the after sales experience changes.
